Remarkable events
There were lots of
remarkable events in the life of our town. Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev
has visited Mingacevir twice: the first time when the Azerbaijani State
Thermoelectric Power Station was put into operation in September 1981 and later
on in October 1998.
The current chairman
of the Chinese parliament Lee Peng and Romanian President Ion Iliescu took part
in the construction of the Mingacevir hydroelectric power station when they had
practical experience as part of their study at Moscow Energetic Institute. These
politicians are still keeping close relations with Mingacevir. The leadership of
the town and management of the hydroelectric power station met Mr Li Pen in
Baku when he paid an official visit to our republic, while a delegation of the
town visited People’s Republic of China at Li Peng’s invitation in
January 2000.
